The Chemical Society ALKIMIA, has been founded on September 26th, 1972 by DOGHRI family, and started production in 1976 with a design capacity of 30 000 tons per year (tpy) of technical sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP; Na5P3O10). It is a totally exporting company governed by the Tunisian law N¢X 93-120 of December 27, 1993.

The Sodium tripolyphosphate produced by the Chemical Society ALKIMIA is a phosphate salt obtained through a chemical process developed in-house to obtain a quality product by neutralizing Tunisian phosphoric acid (H3PO4) fertilizer quality with imported caustic soda (NaOH) and / or soda ash (Na2CO3). The STPP is used mainly in the powders detergent industries and in the ceramic one also. See attached MSDF

The Chemical Society ALKIMIA has made several projects of technical developments and expansions to improve the quality of its product and achieve the capacity of 140000 tpa in July 2004.

In order to meet the growing needs of its STPP customers which cannot be satisfied from the only plant of Gabes, Chemical Society ALKIMIA, has taken in 2006 a 55% shareholding in the Company KIMIAL SpA in Algeria. After the start up of the new unit of Annaba, in June 2009, the group ALKIMIA has increased the production capacity 140000 to 200000 tpy.

After having increased the production capacity of sodium tripolyphosphate to 200,000 tpa and renovated its facilities, the Chemical Society ALKIMIA has now reached a stage of development which allows it to market and produce other chemicals. Thus, it has been decided to create ALKIMIA-Packaging Ltd, subsidiary at 100%, for packaging and marketing of soda ash (Na2CO3) in Tunisia and North Africa.

Trade relationships

The quality of the produced STPP and the experience of the company helped a lot to merit the trust and confidence of the customers and mainly the multinational detergent companies which operate with ALKIMIA in the frame of long term relations.

The redeployment of the Commercial strategy initiated since 2008 has allowed to be in touch with new customers located all over the world in addition to the traditional markets in the MENA region.

Indeed the main market where we usually deliver STPP is North Africa – Middle East. In addition to this location, we sell to Latin America’s countries (Mexico, Bresil, Perou….) and to Asia (India, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Iran….).

Around 65% of the sales is addressed to the three multinational detergent companies: Procter & Gamble, Unilever and Henkel which receive our STPP to their detergent plants around the world.

ALKIMIA builds with the main customers relations based on fidelity and avoids as much as possible to deal on spot basis.

The deliveries to the neighbour and near distance countries (Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, and Syrie) are made on conventional vessels from Gabe’s port. To the long distance destinations and for small quantities, the deliveries are made by containers through very reliable shipping companies such as CMA – CGM, MAERSK, and Safmarine which ship to all over the world’s ports


The STPP is packed either in big bags of 1000 to 1250 kg or in 50 kg bags on shrinkwrapped pallets.

The loading ports are Gabes for deliveries on conventional vessels or from Rades for deliveries on containers. Annaba port is also used for the STPP produced in the affiliated company KIMIAL–Annaba.

The Societe Chimique ALKIMIA has a Management system which integrates the Quality, the Environment and the Occupational Health and Safety. This Management system is certified according to ISO-9001(2008), ISO-14001(2004) and OHSAS-18001(2007). See QSE Certificate
